VolkCell

New chat

Automated image analysis for cell biology labs.

Attach a microscopy image and ask what you want to measure, in plain English: counts, confluency, wound closure, viability and more.

Free, no account needed: up to 3 images per run.

    Explore a research question

Start by asking what is possible. Some workflows need an account, additional data or validation.

VolkCell counts cells, measures wound closure and sizes organoids, and shows you every mask so you can check the result before you rely on it.

    How it works

    Ask. Confirm.
    Get the data.

    1. Step 1

      Describe your research question

Attach your images and describe your research goal in the chat.

    2. Step 2

      Verify the analysis plan

For a new workflow, review the proposed image analysis pipeline for your use case. Accept the plan or refine it before running.

    3. Step 3

      Run and analyse

Your images are analysed and the available outputs are returned: measurement CSVs, image overlays and requested plots. Review the masks and quality warnings alongside your results.

    FAQ

    Common questions about us.

    What is VolkCell?

VolkCell is AI-powered image analysis software for cell biology labs. It turns raw microscopy images into cell counts, confluency and segmentation, directly in the browser, with no code, no installation, and no hardware required.

How accurate and fast is VolkCell?

Accuracy and processing time depend on the image and the measurement. There is no single accuracy percentage that applies to every sample. Review the masks and any quality warnings before using a result; some images need review, correction or a new capture. Models trained on your own images also need validation for your intended use.

Which cell types and culture formats does VolkCell support?

You can request analyses for adherent cells, cells in suspension, scratch assays and spheroids. Available measurements depend on the image and the required inputs; review the proposed method and result warnings for your use case.

    When does an analysis run?

Quick requests, such as a cell count or confluency on attached images, run straight away, just like the upload form. Bigger work, such as experiments, measurements across timepoints, 3D analysis, saved workflows and model training, comes back as a plan first, and does not run until you confirm it.

Do I need to know the pixel size of my images?

No. Counts, confluency, coverage and intensity do not need a pixel size, so VolkCell runs them without asking. Sizes and areas are reported in pixels with a note unless you state a scale; give one, such as 0.65 µm per pixel, when you want physical units.

    How much does VolkCell cost?

Usage allowances and available exports are shown in your workspace. For enterprise deployment, book a time with us so we can understand your needs before quoting.

    Where is VolkCell based?

VolkCell is based in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
